Helloian
The Gaelic festival of greeting started by Laird Ian Stewart in the Middle Ages and celebrated each year on October 31. Central to the festival is ‘stick-
or-meating’ whereby children move door to door bearing a cudgel and a hessian bag. Home owners are greeted and then threatened with a gentle beating if they do not provide corned beef or a similar meat product.
